Breaking News: Jets Coach Rex Ryan Possibly on Drugs!!

*above Jets head coach Rex Ryan answering a question about how high he was after he proclaimed his Jets team to be the favorite to win the Super Bowl this year.

A member of the press told Jets coach Rex Ryan the odds of his wildcard Jets winning the Super Bowl were 50 to 1 and those were the longest odds of any team in this year’s playoffs. Ryan responded by saying, that’s false and that his team is “the best team in the tournament“. The next question asked to Ryan was “how high are you”? possibly confusing his confidence in his team with how intoxicated he might be coach Ryan *answered… coach probably misunderstood the question

The above exchange obviously didn’t happen but with the playoffs about to get under way this Wildcard Weekend the head coach’s statement was met with a combination of shock confusion and a little humor. This being the same head coach who famously wasn’t aware of his team’s chances of making the playoffs just two weeks ago essentially writing them off in the press. But even with all the bravado, is the coach really being arrogant or just giving his logical assessment of his team’s playoff chances. After all his Jets did finish the season as the NFL’s #1 defense also possessing the league’s #1 running game, 2 factors which usually lead to a great opportunity to advance in the playoffs and compete for the title. The Jets as a team are solid at all three phases of the game with playmakers on both sides of the ball particularly workhorse running back Thomas Jones and shutdown corner back Darrell Revis. Under any other circumstances the Jets would possibly be favorites. The one question mark (no pun intended) and its a big one is at quarterback with rookie Mark Sanchez running the plays.

Sanchez the former USC Trojans star quarterback has been decent at times trying to learn the pro game and a pro playbook as a rookie quarterback but for the most part really struggling while trying to adjust to the NFL game. Sanchez finished his first regular season throwing 12 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. His play as the head of the offense has cost the Jets a couple of games this season. Projected as a potential franchise player Sanchez hasn’t quite lived up to the hype just yet but it’ll be his ability or lack there of that he demonstrates in the playoffs that could ultimately seal the Jets fate.

Rex Ryan knows that if he can somehow get Sanchez to limit his turnovers and manage the game while utilizing the run game and have the defense continue to play at its high level his team will have as good a chance as any to advance. Their first test comes this Saturday against the Bengals in Cincinnati a potential revenge game for the Bengals after getting obliterated 37-0 in the last game at Giants Stadium. If the Jets can get all these factors to work in their favor in a perfect storm of events they’ll have a great chance to make their coach look like a Mangenius… pardon me i meant genius (sorry wrong coach). Hey you never know, shit maybe i’m the one that’s high.
