Brett Favre

After 17 seasons in the National Football League living legend Brett Favre has decided to call it quits. Drafted out of Mississippi by the Atlanta Falcons in 1991 Favre was acquired by The Green Bay Packers for a first-round draft pick in 1992. The rest how you say, is Packer history.

When you think of the word “quarterback” a lot of great names come to mind. When you think Green Bay you used to think Bart Starr. Since Favre arrived in Wisconsin when you think Packer football you think Brett Favre. His name is attached to almost every QB record in NFL history. Some of which in years to come may fall, if the quarterbacks to follow him prove to be as durable as Brett. Brett finishes his career having made 253 consecutive regular-season starts, 275 including the playoffs. He accomplished this feat playing through several injuries, a broken thumb, bruised ribs, separated shoulder, a bruised elbow, all without complaint.

He is the only 3-time NFL MVP in in NFL history (1995-1997) a Super Bowl Champion (Super Bowl XXXI) and he set career records for most TD passes (442), completions (5,377), attempts (8,758), passing yards (61,655), wins by a starting QB (160) and interceptions (288). The latter an indication for his gun slinger style of play. He set most of these records this past 2007 season. The thing I will remember most about Brett were his acrobatic nearly impossible throws, his laser precise arm, and his pure love for the game. I won’t go into the argument of best quarterback of all time or rank my Top 5 or Top 10. When you look at the current QB records you will see his name at #1 next to nearly all of them. He may not have amassed all of the rings as Joe Montana or Terry Bradshaw or had the military style cut as one Johnny Unitas but he played the game in it’s purest form. Every Sunday with a smile on his face win or lose Brett was there. It would be fitting to have it end in the Super Bowl hoisting up the Lombardi trophy and leaving in a blaze of glory, but it ended the same way it started on the arm of the Packers quarterback. Their quarterback, #4 Brett Favre. Thanks for the memories.

Favre if not the greatest quarterback was arguably the most fun to watch. He was the most entertaining player in the league for years.
