“Pardon me…DUKE”!!

Alex Ruoff and his West Virginia Mountaineers teammates denied a heavily favored Duke team a chance to reach the Sweet 16. Go Big East!
A couple of Big East teams have taken a fall after a good first round in this year’s tournament, but West Virginia ranked #7 in their bracket pulled off the upset of the storied #2 Duke team yesterday in round two, winning 73-67. The Mountaineers now move on to the Sweet 16. They’ll face a hot Xavier team which should be a hard fought matchup taken into consideration both teams blue collar defensive mindset.
WV was led by the two Joe’s junior Joe Alexander who had 22 points and 12 boards and Joe Mazzulla (the Jason Kidd/Deron Williams clone) who put up a near Kiddesque triple double finishing with 13 points 11 rebounds and 8 assts. Alex Ruoff also chipped in with 17 points including a couple of dagger threes.
Duke didn’t look like the team that’s been at the forefront of college basketball for the last 15, 20 years. This is the second consecutive early exit for a team that has been in a staple in the later rounds and the final four. Duke which feature 8 McDonald’s All Americans couldn’t take out the Mountaineers who don’t even have one. I guess its time for college basketball fans to start getting over their infatuation with the Blue Devils and start taking notice of up and comers like West Virginia. Big East UP ACC down!!
